Ian Watt: Hi good afternoon! It’s Ian Watt in Downtown Vancouver. Featured on the CBC news. Little while ago. There is a story about the guy who is renting out places in Downtown Vancouver. What he's doing he's signing a lease on a one bedroom or stdio or two bedroom. He's putting down the damage deposit and then he sub letting it to ESL students who don't know any better. What's happening he's cramming a lot of people into this tiny little spaces. Then the landlords try to contact him and find out where he is and how come he hasn't pay the rent. Meanwhile, he collected the first and the last months. He collected damage deposits and all the months rent from this kids and by the time the owners the actual owners find out that his not actually staying in there and they are trying to figure out where the rent is. It's too late he's moved on to the next people. So my situation is, a suggestion is that when your going to find a new tenant. You do some research, dig deep. This people can fake documents and fake other references so the top three references they ask for go through credit check find out more references. Do your homework because people out there scamming everyone and if you are in the ESL industry. Make sure your students know taht they should be contacting the actual registered owner. Make sure that they find the property tax information and find if they're names actually match up with the property taxes and with their driver's license. My name is Ian Watt. You can always email me at ianwatt@ianwatt.ca. Thank you very much and have a great day!
